When walking into your bathroom, what’s your feeling? A bleak and misty woodland of marble and stainless steel? A more comprehensive and enjoyable bathroom experience is what we’re expecting now! Two aspects stand out when designing a smart shower room: 1) intelligent design elements that enable concurrent tasks; and 2) emotional design elements focused on “playful” features.

Thrilled to share our research published in 2022. Using the participatory design approach, we distilled a set of five foot gestures for six concurrent tasks (e.g., controlling water volume while washing hair) to support hands-free experiences in smart shower rooms. We further proposed a taxonomy and design guidelines for foot gesture design in this study. Check this link to read our paper!

A big thank you to Sarah Paynter for citing this study in her latest article in The Wall Street Journal!
