❄️ Ke det gåri, Bergen? I am excited to share the news that I conducted an online presentation for the full paper, “I Want My Chart to Be Just for Me”: Community-Engaged Design to Support Outpatient Healthcare for Resettled Communities” during CSCW ‘25. This project is led by my advisor, Professor Ji Youn Shin, and it is a collaborative effort with my other amazing co-authors, Alisha Ghaju, May Hang, and Professor Juan Fernando. I’m very grateful for all the insightful feedback and meet-ups from the CSCW community.

By conducting two community-based participatory design workshops with 30 Hmong community members in the Twins Cities in Minnesota, we identified four types of assets the community has gradually developed, including intergenerational support for health management and storytelling-based communication practices that facilitate relatable and culturally grounded interactions. We show how participatory design workshops can foster asset-based approaches, and discuss design implications for technologies that leverage patients’ existing strengths to support their health management during outpatient visits.

This paper was also presented via a panel discussion during CSCW Northeast Meetup in New Jersey, NY, USA, as well as via an in-person presentation during 2025 Design Justice Symposium in Minneapolis, MN, USA.
